Beach Fishing-Sam Spills The Beans!
« on: August 08, 2009, 11:02:59 PM »

OK too much Gewürztraminer and Brandy and I'll probably regret this but.........

One of deadliest beach casting techniques for Coho is to cast out a small lead herring and burn it back just under the surface no stopping at all.

I don't mean jig it I mean burn it!!!!!!

Coho go crazy for something they think is getting away and will usually grab it right @ your feet.

YMMV.

i think "burn it" means reel as fast as you frigging can without pausing or anything. I have done this with flies also and it can be deadly at times  ;D

I've always wondered how you're supposed to fish those lead herrings - might give it a try on the lower fraser

Yippers!

Start off medium speed and if you know there are fish but they won't take then crank it.

I doubt it would work there at all.

What I'm talking about is not how you're supposed to fish them for Salmon at all-it's a specific technique that works for Coho later in the season in certain places.

Yup, coho are notorious for hitting lures just about to get away.

That's good intel, Sam. Thanks. I have a certain "certain place" in mind...

While publically I denounce "secret" lures, privately I always buy a couple just in case ;)
