There is a herd of hippos in the water in the left distance and in the centre a male moving towards us that, although it doesn't look it in the picture, is way too close.   In the foreground is the bow of our watercraft.

OK, having seen that picture of the "watercraft" I would say anything in the same body of water as it would be "too close" ;)

We took an 'antiques' drive today, going past Monte Lake, Armstrong, Enderby then back through Salmon Arm. 9 of these guys were leisurely munching in their usual haunt on the back road from LaFarge...

Will they stop a hippo if it decides to take a little nibble?  Not a chance!

Will it keep you from swimming if the hippo decides to give you a little nudge?  Not likely.
