If You Go To A Lodge Or Resort
« on: April 18, 2009, 09:17:20 AM »

Be prepared to see an increase in prices. I talked to a gent that runs a lodge and resort up north and as he has to provide his own power generation, he expects costs to rise over $10,000 for his share of the carbon tax. "Revenue neutral" seems to be a theme that the present government claims about this new stream of taxation. I feel very strongly about the environment, but the tax is hardly revenue neutral to him or to trades people like myself who have no choice but to pass on the costs to our customers. The part that sticks in my craw is the gas and oil industry being allowed "flare offs" that create far more pollution and yet they get off scott free. There has to be a better way.

We'll have to see how the economy will affect the lodge/resort sportfishing business this year.  So much of the business is corporate and they are all suffering.  Even public companies with money are reluctant to spend money on junkets or retreats for fear of pissing off their shareholders.
