What is your "go to" rod and reel combo
« on: April 07, 2009, 01:02:16 AM »

I like to rock with a Abu Garcia c4 6600 and a 7ft Berkley rod. I LOVE the Abu reel because I can use it with almost anything!

For the Vedder it is  Sage 3113 matched with Calcutta 2500. Different rods and reels depending on occasion though.

For small streams its my Sage 480 SP with a Sage 2540 reel,  for larger trout rivers its the new sage FLIght 690 with a sage 2560 reel, for Salmon rivers its Sage XI2 890 matched up with an Orvis Big game LA 4( in my avatar photo i was testing out a sage 1680 reel).

I don't have a single go-to rod and reel combo - but here's what I use depending on the situation:

For Stillwaters (I always have 2 rods):

- Sage 590 SLT with Hardy LRH Lightweight reel for dry line setup
- Sage VPS 590 with Hardy Viscount Mk III reel (clear intermediate sink or type 3 sink)

For Rivers:

- Sage 896 RPL+ with Hardy Ultralight Disc (large salmon - chum/springs)
- Sage 796 XP with Hardy Ultralight Disc LA (small salmon & steelhead)

Gear:

- GLoomis GL2 drift rod & Calcutta 200 B with 12 lb mono

11'3" G. Loomis GL2 with an Islander centrepin for most of my river fishing. Although I have recently been using a 12' G.Loomis GL3 casting rod with a Diawa Luna 300L.

awesome rod. It's a hell of a lot lighter than my 11'3" GL2. Easier to fish the whole day with. It got me this bad boy:
