I have an Olympus Stylus 790SW and its indestructible. Waterproof, Shockproof (to 5 feet), Freezeproof (-10C), Dustproof. I have dropped it a few times already and the screen isnt even scratched, and i take lots of underwater shots as well.

from what i have heard the other waterproof cameras arent nearly as tough as the Olympus cameras.

Flogging a dead horse (You asked anglers for advice, so that's what you get!), I've been really happy with my Olympus W30. It fits in my breast pocket, and gives some fun photos in pretty much any environment. Got it at Future Shop.
