I have been chatting with Randy at Hatchmatch'r' lately.
He has had this idea in the works for a while, and now that his renovations at the store are done, he thinks it is time to go ahead.
For those who are interested, he would like to offer an informal fly tying opportunity in a "social" setting in his store.
Here are the details.
Every Saturday beginning on February 9th, he will be opening his "newly remodeled" upstairs of his store from 2:00 to 5:00 in order to facilitate a "social" atmosphere where interested individuals may chat, share techniques, and practice tying flies.
This will be open to all people who may be interested, whether they can tie flies or not.
If you have your own tying supplies, you are encouraged to show up prepared. If you are new and have no supplies, there will be a few kits for you to go up and give the tying thing a try with.
There will be coffee and if lucky, a few snack goodies to aid with your tying.
From my understanding, there will also be tables and chairs set up, and the room upstairs holds about 20 people.
If this is a success, Randy would like to expand the idea, promoting "themes" in order to offer people the chance to learn new flies. In addition, if things go quite well, he would like to expand this concept even further and select one or two Thursdays a month and do this social tying event in the evenings.
If this sounds like an interesting concept to you and you are not sure where the store is located, here is the info you need:
Hatchmatch'r'
#9, 22935 Lougheed Highway
Maple Ridge.
Contact: Randy (604) 467-7118
The store is located across from the Frogstone Grill and Telosky Stadium, just as you leave downtown Maple Ridge and head on Lougheed Highway towards Mission.
Hope this may be of use to some,
Dano
