Has anyone had any issues with putting a bigger reel on a lighter rod? Meaning an 8-9wt reel on a 7wt rod.

While a good idea for a spey reel, I tend to find the smallest reel that will handle a hundred yards of 20lb backing on small lines and 30lb on 6+ lines...I cut off 10 or more feet of the fly running line if I have to to do this...IMHO you don't need running line that long as while it might look good to eventually learn to cast your whole line, trying to set the hook with more then 50ft of line out is a losing propostion...a smaller reel will make your rod lighter and more fishable all day..

I have a Vosseler 7 wt disc drag fly reel.  It is very smooth and durable.  It is made in Germany and comes with great warranty program.  If you are interested I could make it available for $225.00  It retails for $289.00 plus taxes.  Used only twice.  Rod

That's an awesome reel...I use the same one on my 8 wt.  These reels are light so even though they can hold up to an 8 or 9 wt. line they're lighter than alot of reels and should be a good fit for your 7 wt.
