Slide cuts off Similkameen.
« on: August 03, 2007, 10:37:16 AM »

Saw on the news last night the Similkameen, looked pretty nasty. Apperantly there may be mine tailing in the river now. Probably curtailed the fishing there for the mean time. Hopefully it's not too bad.

Where around did the slide occur?  Near Princeton, Hedley, Keremeos?

Can I find this news anywhere online?

Thanks.

From: http://www.rdosmaps.bc.ca/min_bylaws/NewAndEvents/Press_Releases/2007/Similkameen_River_Landslide_Aug2.pdf

On Thursday August 2nd, staff from the Regional District o Okanagan-Similkameen, the Town of Princeton and Ministry of Environment responded to reports of the water level in the Similkameen River dropping rapidly to ensure there was no public safety threat. It was discovered that a landslide had occurred in an isolated area approximately 14km south of Princeton. This slide held back water that eventually released sending muddy water back to normal levels. At this time water in the Similkameen River remains muddy from the debris, so the Regional District would recommend to residents and recreational users along the river to take precautions if in the water. If at any time the public observes water flow stopping quickly, please immediately notify the Provincial Emergency Program at 1-800-663-3456. For further information on this event or the Regional Emergency Program, please contact Mark Woods, RDOS Protective Services Manager at 250-490-4132.

cheers,

Paul.

Thanks, Murkeywaters.

I stopped at Keremeos today on the way back from 3 day trip.  The water was just a little silty and looked fishable.
