Anyone know how old a 50lb halibut would be.  I wonder how long before the halibut population declines to a point where you would be lucky to catch one if you went up to the QC.. Is there any concern for this or are there just too many...
I hate hearing stories from the good old days.. stop fishing before it is too late

It makes you cringe once awhile when watching that video doesn't it? ;) Meanwhile we have a tendency to corner someone and give them the lesson if they hold the released fish out of the water a bit too high. ;D Not that I am saying we shouldn't emphasize good sportfishing.

The halibut fisheries are better managed, but I am not familiar with them so others will enlighten us. The 2 meter long halibut is about 20ish years old. Population doubling time is a bit longer than lingcod and a bit better than rockfish, between 4 and 10 years.

Hey Rod thats pretty amazing footage. They were just hauling them up one after another. I also checked out a vid I saw beside it, Bens 376LB. halibut and that was pretty cool to. I was happy when Ben let it go to swim for another day. Thanks Rod.

Quite the haul of fish.  I'd be happy with just one of those.
