Steelheading the island.... trip planning

Well me and CAPT BONK are thinkin of taking off in 2 weeks to the island for a tuesday and wednesday of Van Isl steelheading. Anyone got any recommendations?
We will not have access to a drift or jet boat.... simple shore access I'm afraid and not really into booking with a guide on such short notice.

any thoughts??
