suggestions for anchor winches
« on: December 08, 2006, 10:27:51 PM »

Looking into getting a anchor winch for a 19 foot boat on the Fraser.  Any suggestions or experience from others would be appreciated.  Also, if you have had one installed in your boat, who did it for you and how much?
Thanks

Well, I'm gettin a little old to haul up the 35-lb CQR and 20lb chain from 60-80 ft down on my 36ft sailboat, so I've been jonesing for one of these:

(cost about $1500 plus installation)

But I'm selling the 36 and going down to a 27 - shouldn't need a winch. Your anchor is... how big? ;)

Have you tried just powering up to the anchor, cleating it when you're on top of it, and powering forward? That should release the anchor, then just haul her up!
