P-line ????
« on: November 10, 2006, 08:38:39 PM »

What is the best p-line to put on your reel for steelhead and what test? I heard it is good stuff, but when I looked in the stores there are several choices.

ditto, flouroclear is pretty good stuff and surprisingly abrasion resistant.  I landed 4 nasty buck tooth chum and one large spring in a row without any fraying in the leader.  The fish were rolling all over the line and it held up as good as any line I've fished with.

Yes it is.  It has a bit more stretch property to other p-lines.  Good for main line.

I wonder if this floroclear co-polymer line is a bit of a marketing scam.

If you use a coating which looks "invisible" in the water (ie. has the same refractive index as water), how can it make what is inside the coating look invisible?

I have no issues with 100% fluorocarbon.  If you put you put that in water it should be very close to invisible.  This is like putting clear crystal glass in water.  However, a coating will not make what is inside invisible.  Eg.  you can put red wine in a clear crystal bottle, but you will still see the red wine if you immerse it in water.

I have used P-Line for several years now.  Flouroclear makes an excellent spinning reel line.  Far better than any of the crap from Berkley.  I also use 20lb flouroclear right now on my centerpin.  And either 15 or 20 depeding on the situation on my levelwind.  I have also used the CXX for mainlines without any issues and the CXX leader material as well.

Almost forgot, I have used their 10lb Flourocarbon leaders spools for steelhead and the same in 4lb in the interior lakes.

Let's have a little decorum here. No need to be name calling.
