stepping on redds
« on: October 20, 2006, 02:24:20 PM »

Just got back from several successful days on the Vedder and noticed one thing upsetting that I feel compelled to share.  Several folks wading around either have no clue or don't care that they're walking right through a redd.  These fish have a tough enough time just making it through to their spawning gravels, they don't need people chasing them off their reds or walking straight through one.

If you don't know how to spot one, just look for a big cleaned patch of gravel.

Sorry to nitpick but it's actually spelt redd.  Yes, I hate seeing people wading through redds.

You'd think I'd be able to spell it being a wildlife biologist and all.   :P

I'm sure most people are unaware of this... Personally I didn't even know what a redd was until I read this!

The Vedder is choked with fish. There really is no need to be wading out to catch them.
