Fresh Roe At Steveston Wharf
« on: October 13, 2006, 04:47:39 PM »

i checked out the steveston wharf today and noticed a few boats selling fresh (chrome) chum. i also noticed that they all had an abundance of beautiful roe for sale. $7 lb for anyone interested.   high quality and rich colour, in tight skeins.

Bruce's market used to sell Chum roe for $12+ bucks a pound,a few years back . Like oil stocks this was based on Japenese people eating chum roe by the buckett at a  premium price. They say that now that the younger generation of Japenese don't prefer the taste of Chum roe it's starting to drop. When I first bought Chum it was $2.50 a pound at Bruce's. you do the math.
