Danish Brown Trout (02:43, 10.2mb)
Western Denmark offers fantastic dry fly fishing for brown trout in May and June. In June 2006, both Nina and I had the opportunity to meet up with a good friend of ours, Orla Bertram-Nielsen to check out what this fishery is all about. We truly enjoyed our short visit. The insect, bird and fish activities around the creek were overwhelming. Throughout the clip, you should be able to hear the songbirds that were being very vocal. The mayfly hatches in the evening resulted in constant rises of trout. These creeks are groundwater fed, therefore the water remains cold in the summer, and warm in the winter. It is the ideal environment for salmonids. The average width of the creek is only about 30 feet. Most anglers use a 3 or 4 wt when targeting these trout, which are between 0.5 and 3lb. During late summer evenings, large sea trout (migratory brown trout, up to 20lb) would make their way up the creek as they return to spawn. Night flyfishing is the typical method when targeting these fish. This is only possible because the sun sets at around 11pm during the summer and it usually stays light enough well past midnight.

Enjoy!
