Tips on CP?
« on: October 08, 2006, 05:31:40 PM »

Just got my new CP (thanks fisher) and picked up a trophy xl... I've been practising casting in my back yard... ( I have a pretty big one ) and all my casts seem to sway a little to the left.... I get my fingers caught in the handle sometimes that that hurts pretty badly but I just have to get used to it... :D

any tips on how to straighten out my casting? or just any random tips or stuff I can avoid while actually getting into a fish (can't wait) :D

Thanks!

get a feel for the action of the rod and use it to cast, you could be over swinging on your cast, try and point to where u want it to go.

Let it go before you are going to cast to get the reel spinning, then swing it through.

You have to get used to letting it go at a different place than you would if you were using a bait caster.
Sweep it, do not try to snap it and make sure you have enough weight to make it work right.
To little weight and it will no spin correctly.

I let go of the reel and about 1 -  3 seconds later I swing...  is that the correct way?

Put on a bit more weight that usual when learning and before you cast let it freespool for a second then swing it ( make sure you have suffient room or you might hook someone next to you). I also think to cast with the handles  pointing to the sky...seems to make the spool spin more freely and straighter

Hope that helps
