Where to repair my rod..?
« on: September 09, 2006, 10:25:33 PM »

Hi guys, just have a question about repairing rod..
I have a shimano FX series medium heavy rod, bought at the Walmart last year.  To my shock that rod cracked (near the joint) on the first usage, a 20pounder chum sprinting downstream was too much for it.  So, i'm just wondering if it's worth repairing it? i paid like $30 for the rod... thanks for any input. :)

I would sooner buy a new rod. If you want to rod repaired you can take it in to West Coast Fishing Tackle on Hastings. Get an estimate first because the repair may be more than what the rod is worth.

Shimano FX rods have a One-Year limited warranty. If it broke on a fish chances of replacement are pretty good.

If you plan on targetting fish like chum and spring's then I would probably consider that rod as a write off and just purchase a new one. Now, if you are going to use a spinning rod again then I would reccomend stepping up. I would invest around $100 and get yourself into a trophy MH spinning rod (i think they are like $105). This rod can handle pretty much all springs and chum and if it breaks they have a one year warranty, but no cards to worry about. There are other less expensive options, but if you wish to continue salmon fishing then you are probably going to have to bank on buying at least one new rod a season.
