Help Me :)
« on: September 06, 2006, 05:25:28 PM »

When I was driving home on Monday From the Interior I decided to take the scenic Canyon route, well I decided to make a few stops along the way and found some insanly awesome spots to fish and camp all along the river below Spences Bridge.. Now this weekend I am planning on camping out and fishing both Sat and Sun can anyone tell me the regs on the Thompson right now.. is is shut down to all fishing or is there still a Jack Spring fishery??? I am too lazy to find it in the regs and even if I find it they are usually so confusing I have no idea what it is saying anyways !!!   ;D ;D thanx in advance for your help
Rick

Thx FF so if I am reading that correctly the Springs are open for retention until Sept 17th , I have heard in the past from Chris that you can only keep Jack Springs but if I read it right it says you can keep two over 50cm and four total per day I hate those things they are so confusing!! so are all other salmon closed on the Thompson including Chum Sockeye and Coho??????

Phone the guys at Highwater, both have been fishing the Thompson a fair amount this year. I believe as of Sept 1st Sockeye retention is allowed in a section of the River down stream of Kamloops.( Check DFO Notices ) Spring fishing is done and the trout fishery has dropped off as the river is filled with Salmon.

Rick I was gonna reply to your PM but I am just as confused as you.

Salmon regulations of the Thompson River can be found on the bottom of this page:

http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/recfish/Freshwater/region3_e.htm

It's long... Best to double, triple check after you know where exactly you are fishing.

I dunno, lots of big red sockeyes up there this past weekend....not sure if its what I would target...they're everywhere!

trout fishing is a better bet, although the salmon have forced them into the faster riffles and deeper water...medium dryflies with down wings like a stonefly or hopper and yellow underbellies far out-performed the other stuff.

Say Rick, you may want to read over what areas of the Fraser are still open to fishing by looking over some of the links people passed on to you. But I think the Fraser River in the Hope area is now closed to Salmon fishing.
