One of the best sources of ice is freeze 2 litre pop bottles. They can be used over and over again and you have cool water to drink all the time as well. Environmentally friendly, no plasic bags to dispose of when the ice melts.

When freezing the bottles put them in the freezer for a couple of days as your ice will be harder and will last longer. On my 3 day trip to the Thompson  in 30 degree heat for part of the day the bottles still had ice in and my fish were ice cold when I got home.

I like the square cranberry juice containers too.  They don't roll around, and pack well.

That is how I used to keep the fridge cold at the cabin as we did not have power. It worked great and the ice would last for ever and when it started to melt we had some nice ice cold water which tasted great because the water to the cabin had to be boiled because the water came from a spring about a mile or two up the mountain.

Keep those empty 1 litre milk containers. Fill them with water and freeze. Excellent for keeping the fish fresh in the cooler.

I forgot to mention that when filling the bottles with water do not fill to the top keep it at about 3/4 full. Water will expand when freezing and when they are filled to the top the bottles will crack and when it melts the water will leak everywhere.
