tofino coho
« on: August 20, 2006, 01:41:15 AM »

went to  Vancouver island with the family to relax and  to visit some  friends that we haven't seen for awhile, when we arrived went out did the dinner thing and checked out the sights of course then the next day it was our water activity day ;D our friends asked have we ever salt water flyfished i said no and the response was get ready for some wild action on the fly,as we rolled up along this kelp bed i seen something rolling around my bud said it's just some Ho's,now the fun begins,my buddy on his second cast hooks and lands a beautiful doe about 10lbs :o here I'm still trying to figure out how to get my line out there as I'm new to flying all together about the 6th cast out i finally hook one it starts to jump and we're watching some awesome acrobats he's yelling at me strip the line and of course I'm  ??? Now it's fish off. about 20Min's later after the in house instrution on how to, the tide was coming in now pushing even more fish at us once again 4th or 5th cast and it's on  :) i strip the line and played it out after about 10Min's i land a chrome 8lber  ;D by this time we had to get back for lunch with the family so i said last cast and we'll go,casted out stripping and wham it's on again this time manage to land it a little quicker and was rewarded with another chromie :o but this was a bit bigger now i know why everyone loves it there for fishing.

You catch a lot more fish just dragging the fly behind the boat-no need to money around trying to cast.

But there's something about the beauty of having a fish hit a fly that YOU presented to it, rather than just "dragged around" :)

If the fish are around, casting to them is far more effective, you can be on top of them in a matter of seconds, and with an 8wt you can get alot of distance.  If you're searching for them, sure a boat is more effective...but you should know where to look anyways if you know what youre doing Sam  ;D

Hi Scruffy,
Change of plan, i'm now going to Tofino for a week in Oct, i know exactly where you mean i fished there last year, did'nt have the good luck you had, or  maybe that most of the time i just sat and looked out to sea, god its beautiful just sitting on that rocks.
So this time i'm going to fish there and Salmon beach, try out some stuff from over here see if it works over there.
Got to do some fly fishing on the Stamp. i was told to go down service road, if anyone know if there is some good fly fishing water there i would be greatful for any info.
Thanks Gordon.
