UGLY?!?  I have seen $800 discus with similiar coloration/patterns!!! Looks like a great little pet to me!

I thought about starting a tank for my kids with some wild fish (it looks like that one is in a tank)...I would assume fish like that domesticate easily...how long has he had it?

What did he catch it with?  I'd like to put one of those in my aquarium.  Pretty neat looking  :)

Ya I think most pan fish are easy to catch...small hooks and a little bait and your set.  we used to use meal worms...little maggot things, we grew our own but I am sure you can get them from any tackle store.

Of course we all remember the little detail that keeps us from keeping these things in an aquarium????  The law.  "Illegal to transport live fish" and all that jazz.

Ya ya ya DS...I think that law is critical to protect against introduction of a new species to a new habitat...but really, whats the harm of putting some panfish in a tank at home, as long as they can be legally retained fish and they don't get into another NATURAL envirnment then do you really think DFO would care?

PS IH8XC - was that a local fish u caught?  What lake did it come out of?  I'd love to put a half dozen of those in a tank at home.

Gooey,

That is some screwed up logic about "bending" the law. Good on DS for trying to remind everybody that it is ILLEGAL to transport live fish in this province. Don't try and preach to the bass/perch planters and then pretend that it's OK for you to do it as long as they're going to live in your aquarium. Please don't do it, it wouldn't be that hard to drop a message to the CO's about this.  :-\

A river is never quite silent; it can never, of its very nature, be quite still; it is never quite the same from one day to the next. It has its own life and its own beauty, and the creatures it nourishes are alive and beautiful also. Perhaps fishing is only an excuse to be near rivers. - Haig-Brown

Let me ask you this...do you speed?  EVER???  I regularly do 120-130km on the #1 in open traffic and on a dry road, I slow it down in the rain and I never speed in a school zone...its all about risk and CONSEQUENCES...so get a grip Bedbeeko, transplanting species from one natural ecosystem to another can cause disaster...putting a few fish in an aquarium at home can not cause any damage....really lets keep things in perspective, keeping a few wild fish as pets can not be compared to TRANSPLANTING SPECIES.   :P
