Went out for Sockeye yesterday and caught a 2lb sucker. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Sockeye fishing is new to me. First year I have tried it.

My setup was:

extra fast sink tip (6"/sec)
10ft leader (10lb)
green fly (non weighted and weighted - tried both varieties)

any advice  if I were to go again?

I was fishing the islands in around where the Harrison meets the Fraser.

I have heard that just down from the masses at pegleg bar there is a bit of slower frogwater where sockeye *might* hang out.  The harrison ones come in a little later on I think and theyre all C/R

well im pretty sure they hang out in all types...the problem is that with the fraser running strong you need to find water you can fish with a fly.  The harrison will be deadly when that run comes in, there are sooo many good areas to fish there, its a no brainer!!

Long leader defeats the purpose of the ultra fast sinktip the fly does not get into the zone. Try the slower water at the top of Peg leg, three foot leader max.

They are open for a retention of two per day. Like the Fraser.

All you have to do is get some 3 or 4 oz. Betties and some 15' tapered leader and you're in business.

most fly fished sockeye on the fraser and just fly flossed , so theres really no dif. between bb'ing and fly flossing on the fraser. in the harrison, i think differently cuase its not as fast running which means they at least have a chance to bite!

I went to Pegleg last year during the pink run. I was using a Spey rod and type 6 sink tip. The day I chose turned out to be the first day of the sockeye opening . I was was targeting pinks with weighted pink and green flies but the first two fish I caught were sockeyes. I was told later that it was just another form of flossing but I didn't have a problem with that. I caught two sockeye and one pink and no one else at the top of Pegleg had any luck bottom bouncing. I think it was beginner's luck.

You dont have to worry about it as much on the fraser cause the rocks are usually not huge (depending on where your fishing). It still has the potential to get frayed and snagged up, so a fast sink tip is often you best bet .

waht kind of Fly you guy´s fish for Sockeye.

bright and colourd ( Pink, Green, Silver), ore more dark stuf?

And wich size?

I was pretty sucesfull with small, havy pink Flys, for pink Salmon on the Campbell. Same thing fore Sockeye in the Fraser?

And is there any chance to hook a Chinook right now? ( tippet size?)
