Adult with tidal licence can keep 4 crabs if 6.5" and over. Can youths 16 and under keep the limit as well but without the tidal licence?

In the regs (HERE) it says 16 and under are free.

I just want to clarify that they can crab for free as well.

The reason I ask is if I crab by myself than my limit is 4, but if I take my 4 year old boating and crab, my limit is still 4, but can my daughter claim another 4?.

Not trying to be greedy, just looking for a way to get more crabs if we decide to have a family feast.

Yes, your kid is entitled to a limit. However, they are still required to have a saltwater licence. It's free if they are under 16 years old.

I always thought that the kid must be able to sign their name on the licence to be valid but I may be wrong . I do know that the licence is free but you have to buy the salmon tag if they want retain a fish.

Interesting, so even though the licence is free they must have it in posession. I was also wondering how young below 16 can they be and your comment about being able to sign the licence makes sense. No problem though, as she can sign her name - just takes a minute or so. :) However, it seems like a ridiculous formality to obtain a licence when they are free.  ???  :P

I think the guys in SeaRun would look at me funny if I brought my 4 year old in for a licence. :)

Thanks for the info.

You can get it on-line for free. Try this link. If it doesn't work just do a search for youth fishing licenses BC

That system is great. Why can't they do that for Non-Tidal as well?
