Oil slick being cleaned up in Burrard Inlet
July 04, 2006 - 3:44 pm
By: Nikki Pena/Shane Bigham

The Vancouver Port Authority says about 80 litres of fuel spilled into the waters beneath the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge.  It looks like a bulk ship was being refuelled when some of the fuel spilled out of an air vent.  Witnesses say two recovery barges are at the scene, putting white foam on the water.  A 200 foot boom to contain the oil has been put on the water.   The Port Authority credits the quick response of Burrard Clean Operations and their own vessels to contain the oily mess.  The slick  gathered near the mouth of Lynn Creek.  Environment Canada is monitoring the situation.

If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles
