For those that purchase their lead sinkers, be ready for huge price increases this year. With raw materials, energy costs and freight costs at all time highs, prices on lead weights like downrigger balls and large bar fishing wedge weights have increased recently by 30%-50% at the wholesale level. Some of the manufacturers now have suggested retails of $29.99 for 10lb downrigger balls. Just be ready for this when buying sinkers this year.

here is an example of suggested retail pricing that has changedd on Gibbs brand packaged 1lb pencil lead with eyelet.
It was $4.59 and now it will be $9.59 a pound. Huge increase.

Hey gang...its getting close to the season anyhow so might as well refresh everyones memories considering the current topic...I cast bouncing betties and sell them direct to the fisherman - supply some retails stores too..

My prices were way better than retail last year and it sounds like they will only be better this year.

I cast 1/2/3/4 oz betties with a brass eye and a swivel.  I have used regular snaps and safety snap (the ones with the little bent tang) in sizes 5 and 7 as I recall (rate for 35lb and 50lb).  I do not rubber coat them as the plastic seems to shed off too quickly and create garbage in the system.

Oh ya, and thousands of little lead betties bouncing down the Fraser after broken from from snags are not environmental concerns at all lol... ;D
