April 14th with Kiss My Carp
« on: April 15, 2006, 12:29:07 AM »

After a couple of disruptive phone rings (phoning me at 10:30am, how inconsiderate! >:( ;) ) that dragged me out of that warm bed this morning, I toyed with the idea of spending a couple of hours in Ladner and searching for the forgotten gold ghost. :) I ran the idea by Chrome Mykiss and he was keen, so we decided to meet at the secret location at 2:30pm. ;)

I arrived at the location first and was told by CM that he was making a detour to Timmy's. ;D ::) While I sat and waited, drama unfolded on the nearby field. I looked behind me, and large flock of snow geese landed. :o I quickly grabbed the cameras and jumped out of the car. Luckily I was able to get a few shots in before they flew away.

CM arrived just as the geese were taking off. It took no time for the gear to be set up and we were fishing! :D

Don't disclose the secret spot now. ;D

Beside the usual rod and reel, I always make sure my carp outings include a chair, a rod holder, a catch and release net, and a small container that carries all my terminal tackle, bait and cameras.

So today's trip highlight was the end of it. ::) Water was low and brown, not a single nibble. We decided to take refuge at Steelhead King's house after a few hours of boredom. Itosh then joined us for dinner, Korean BBQ was on the menu tonight. ;D

Kiss my carp has to wait until next time... ;)

I think the water has to warm up a bit before the action picks up, I tried for carp a couple times last week but didn't get any bites. This summer I am going to try for carp on the fly, when fishing trout lake in Vancouver in the warmer months the carp feed on the surface alot, sometimes jumping right out of the water.  While looking for fly patterns I found that in the southern states they use a fly to imitate a cotton seed, apparently the carp love feeding on the cotton seeds that fall into the water, now if i can just figure out what they are feeding on in the local lake I should be able to catch them on the surface.

Ah, so that was you yesterday Joshua. :) We drove by the little hideout. ;) Bwi Bwi said a few days ago he managed to catch a few from that spot, but they were not big.

Last December I was reading an article (well, looking at the photos :) ) in a Danish angling magazine about this gentleman's success on carp with flies that immitate piece of bread. If trout lake are frequently visited by duck feeders.... ;)

Better than a Big Mac anyways. ;D
