I would like to trade some fishing secrets for some hunted meat.
I don't like hunting but I sure like to eat meat...
Anyways, if you are coming from New West, there are several other spots that you may want to try out with your kid. River Road in Delta between Alex Fraser Bridge and the tunnel can be good at times. The only thing I do not like down there is the distance to the road, too noisy. Annacis Island has some spots available, but I am not as familiar with them. If you are willing to drive further, Richmond around Steveston area can be excellent in the first week of September. Lots of fishing space, friendly crowd and the view ain't that bad either. If you come down this way, I'll be out there fishing and can bring a bunch of those salmon id cards and other educational fishing goodies for your daughter and her friends or siblings.
You want to fish during the incoming tide, from two hours before peak to when the water is peaking.
Get some
Gibbs Croc spoons, 1/4oz ones. The patterns you want are:
Do the casts for her if she has never spincasted before, so you can get the distance. Let her slowly retrieve the lure, make sure the rod tip is pointing towards the water. When the spoon gets closer to shore, tell her to reel in a bit faster so you do not snag up.
