went to the Fraser this morning and thought I'd give her a try again no luck for myself but the fellow next to me had something on for a couple  of Min's but ended up losing it after a few hours i decided to go over to the vedder and see what it's like, well the water is gin  clear and very low in most parts of the upper river saw a couple stupid fisherman catching and netting sockeye I'm sure if i didn't go over there and mention that it was sockeye they would of been bonked,went down river and saw a father and son fishing and wow nice 15 lbs spring on the shore and still nothing me

I think red spring fishing is just really bad this year. I hope it dosent reflect on the rest of the seasson.

floater, the fishing has not necessarily been bad, just typical. The red spring fishery has never been big. Please take a look at the information on fish production at Chilliwack River Hatchery.

The target numbers of juveniles released tell the story. The amount of red spring released is 1/4 of the white spring, and 1/5 of the coho.

Don't expect the red spring to be abundant throughout the entire river. The fish would hold together at certain locations instead.

Obviously the fishing is not as good as the 2003 run that we had. Salmon runs differ each year, I was simply pointing out the difference between different runs in the same year so people do not have the same expectation when fishing for red chinook, coho, or chum.

The last couple years the run has been as large as 9,000 fish whereas the typical run is about 3,000 pieces. Compare this to the 100,000+ whites and 40,000+ coho so the fishing might seem a little slow.....

I have not done better in 4 years of active red fishing.

I took 4 trips thus far: skunked in on the first, 3 to shore the next trip, 3 to shore 2nd trip, and today 3 hooked - 1 to shore.

IMHO this season, while starting of slow was great.  (yes I do think its essentially over - most of the fish I saw today were quite colored).

Ummhh... I think its like 10,000 or less,  whites they expect back yearly

I never knew how many Coho went through!! This Fall im going Ho hunting on the vedder!!
