Bass bait
« on: April 01, 2005, 12:00:06 AM »

This summer I will try to fish for bass for the first time.

Just wandering what are your experiences regarding bait and what fishing methods you find productive.

I was looking for some Rapala baits, but all of them come with treble hooks. Should I buy them and replace treble hooks with regular hooks or are there some other lures with normal single hooks for bass?

Thanks

For bass, look for structure where they may hold.  Rocks, branches, drop-offs and docks could be a start.  A worm with a float is good too.

Hey Hiker, sorry didn't reply to your email about this, was going to when this weekend's event is over. Anyways, don't worry so much about bait etc for Salt Spring, I'll have a stack of jigs, flies, bait, etc for everyone to use.

Weedless jigs work ok, but we found most of them were just too big for the smallmouth. Flies (leeches etc) were working really well, that's what I'll be using mostly at this year's trip. :)
