poor taste of advertising
« on: December 27, 2011, 10:45:18 AM »

What the heck is with the skimpy dressed dating adds on FWR.
Not the place for this kind of stuff at all in my opinion.
If this was just an adult site then so be it but it isnt.
Shame on you rod.
Anything for a buck huhh?

The ads are dependent on what you have been googling  :)

Shame on who?   ;)

Ive never looked at a dating site so there is more to this than that.
It only shows up on rods site and are not pop ups so i doubt this is the case.

For future reference, if anyone has a problem with advertising banners that display on the website, you are welcome to email me at info@fishingwithrod.com. We're constantly monitoring, making changes by filtering out unwanted advertisements. For contextual advertisements on the website, what you see is not necessarily what I can see, so I cannot clean up what I am not aware of, but always doing my best to do so.

Those dating site ads started popping up only after I looked at some porn sites before signing into Rodney's site.  >:(

Since then, I haven't been able to get rid of the darn thing. I tried looking at fish porn only (especially when the wife is at home), but to no avail. It is definitely related to what the PC user browses for.
You may not frequent dating and porn sites Bruce, but someone who uses your computer definitely does.

Better get over it as it's the sign of the times we live in.

The source code for "http://www.fishingwithrod.com/forum/index.html" page has the advert written in the code.
If this code was removed and a image or copy inserted in its place that would solve the problem.
That would be dependent on Google allowing the code to be rewritten.

google_ad_slot = "7598784316";
google_ad_width = 120;
google_ad_height = 600;

I have been googling alot about gold, hiking boots and movies/games.

Most of the ads for me are to buy gold, hiking boots, and movies/games.

Yes it would.

If anyone wants to discuss how our website is programmed, I'm happy to do so in private to a certain extend, but I don't appreciate it being discussed in public due to security reasons.

How come this only happens when on FWR?
I dont have this happen on other sites?

No idea, probably because FWR caters lonely fishermen. Actually, it may have something to do with the type of advertising program being used on different sites? Which other sites btw, there are a gazillion websites on the net.

As mentioned earlier, my email info@fishingwithrod.com is always open for suggestion. If you really dislike a business that is advertised on our website, then you are free to send its website to me so I can look into it. If you find a broken link on the website, you can email me where the link is so I can fix it. If you dislike a particular post on the forum, you can also email me and I may or may not do something about it. I even welcome readers who point out spelling mistakes on the website to email me. The key word is email, and be specific on your problem.

Because the other sites you visit have private advertisers and don't use Google Ads. As others have said the ads are based off of whatever you Google. I get lots of adverts for phones and music, because that is what I look for.

Anyway, I have just made some more changes which should come in effect in the next few hours and that should solve the issues in question.
