BC Rivers Day 2006
Posted on August 29th, 2006 by Rodney Hsu, webmaster
BC Rivers Day, which celebrates the many values of our waterways, will take place on September 24th, 2006. It is expected that well over 100 events will take place around the Province involving up to 100,000 people.
Events will range from stream clean-ups and fish enhancement activities to educational activities and community riverside celebrations. Since the first event in 1980, Rivers Day has grown to become a BC tradition and has also sparked the creation of World Rivers Day.
To help celebrate this, BC Rivers Day founder and World Rivers Day chair, Mark Angelo, will be speaking in Taiwan on September 24th as part of Asia's biggest Rivers Day celebration. In British Columbia, among the many local events taking place, there will be a major public awareness event along the Cheakamus near Squamish, a large scale restoration project along the banks of Still Creek in Burnaby and a large celebratory paddle trip through the Heart of the Fraser from Hope to Kilby.
