Still poor bug pumping results?
« on: January 25, 2006, 12:10:11 PM »

I am still having a hard time finding ghost shrimp. I've been out to a beach, that used to produce a limit of bugs in 15-20 minutes, 4 times this season will only clams and worms to show.

Is any one out there getting bugs? If so, would you mind reveling the general area?  Also, how far out from the beach are you finding the bugs?  I usually get them only 20-40 yards out on the sand bar but maybe they are not in that close early in the year ?

Thanks,

I've been trying @ Centenial Beach in Tsawwassen.

As Birdman has suggested give White Rock a try. There is a healthy population out there.

hmmm, I wonder why there is none left, maybe because everyone and their dog pumps bugs nowadays, I talked to my buddy who fishes them, he went three days without a fish, wait till march before you start pumping them.

I switched from bugs to jumbo tiger prawn tails because the two sure fire spots that have produced very well for ghost shrimp for many years, has mysteriously gotten worse and worse every year. I am so satisfied with the results from the tiger prawn tails that I don't think i'll ever pump bugs again

Ditto for the prawns. They work just as well as the bugs and stay on the hook better. It's also cheaper to go to super market to pick up the prawns instead of driving to White Rock or Centennial beach to pump the fragile bugs. No need to buy bug pump or tidal license as well.
