Well my bro and me hit the flow today. On the drive up we debated where to start...not knowing the water conditions...whether it would be up, colour? So we decided to try Browne Rd first... hoping maybe some of the KW cordwood might have moved up over night. NOT.... water was perfect colour...slight green tinge, maybe 3 foot visibility. Seen to 2 wilds recycled out of the meat hole... also noticed these fish were hit in the far tail out section.
We left there to head up river. Quick look at the boom sticks showed it's regular flossers at work. A quick coffee refill at the OTW store and upriver we went. At the Tamihi bridge the water was noticeably dirtier (grey tinge) so I'm guessing mid river was tough fishing today. We decided to try Johnny's hole, which provided nothing, then worked down to the Ranger run. Both my bro and I were disgusted with the 2 jiggers working a piece of water ... I verbally let it be known.

Funny how a guilty jigger will suddenly need to re-tie and wait till you leave before indulging himself further. Worse part was, both looked like experienced rods. Pretty sad when you have to resort to making like a Blue Herron and snag/floss steelies.
Anyhow we departed to continue our search. Further downstream we finally hit pay dirt. I was first to hook-up, but after a good battle which included a great jump, I was totally dumbfounded to find I'd foul hooked the fish in the dorsal fin

.... quick point of the rod and the #2 hook was retrieved. Next my bro cashed in....first drift with a chartreuse blade produced a nice 14lb. wild doe. I finished it off with a long line release of a fish of unknown stature. Water conditions are perfect upriver...2-3 feet visibility and water probably rose a 1" the time we were there.
It rained most of the day there but wasn't hard. snow line is down (top of Chipmuck Mnt) low. Angling pressure was low in the lower river compared to the upper section.
If you've got the day off tomorrow ...I'd hit the flow.
I know I'm there Good Friday.
