left Vancouver around 6:30 am, got to bar near Gill around 830 , one spot left on the bar to fish, a number of fish had been caught already before i got there, within the first hour I hooked into a big spring which kept heading downriver, fought it for about 10 min before it snapped my leader,"would of been nice of the guys beside me with the boat to help out" o well it was a nice fight, a little while later i hooked into another spring not half as big, got it up to the shore for the beaching he decided to make for another run a quick jump and it was off the hook, i guess it was around 10 to 15, took a break for lunch came back to the same bar, saw a new sockeye fisherman get his limit, another guy showed up took a couple casts got one and left, then to top it off a 10yr old with a trout rod laced up with some spider wire pulls in a nice sized sockeye, I was skunked for a days fishing, on the brighter side I got to fight a couple nice fish and saw a total of about 12 or so sockeyes beached, my holidays start monday , im hoping to do some camping and finally land a few fish

No I was serious...I'm from the east...never heard that term before.  Nor would I have ever believed you could catch Salmon with wool  :-\
Why is snagging fish legal...? Thats messed up.  I saw some natives doing that at the Cap river mouth but just assumed they were allowed to catch the fish any way they want.  Since I have not yet caught a Capilano Coho I would love to pull one out of that place any way possible...but only if it agrees to try and eat whatever is at the end of my line    :P

As a refesher from the regs:

http://wlapwww.gov.bc.ca/fw/fish/pdf/provincial_regulations.pdf

page 8.

snagging (foul hooking)… hooking a fish in
any other part of its body than the mouth.
Attempting to snag fish of any species is
prohibited. Any fish willfully or accidently
snagged must be released immediately.

Since the fish is hooked in the mouth, it's not snagging by current regulations.  Please stop calling it that.  The MWLAP or DFO don't call it that either.

Ethical or not - personal decisions rule on that.  The rule of law says "OK".
