Chilliwack River, November 5th 2013
« on: November 05, 2013, 06:08:11 PM »

Headed to the lower today at first light.  Fishing was slow. Lack of chum jumping all over the place gave me optimism.  Very little fishing pressure.  Managed to land four chrome coho 2 wild, one hatchery and one misclip. Bonked the hatch. Feel really fortunate as I was the only one into coho. Saw two chum bonked.

hit the lower for a bit today to toss the pin. had a couple of hook ups with chum but couldnt land them. decided to head to my favourite run and see how it was looking. arrived a little after 10am and it wasnt heavy populated. was standing maybe a little to close to someone while fixing my presentation and without even casting once and before I started to walk up the run I get cussed out for what appears to be me "fishing"  too close lol. oh well, he grabs his friend and they leave. I proceeded to cast and the action was amazing! 1 chum, 2 hatch coho(bonked) and 1 wild coho all in 45min. fishing slowed and I caught another hatch coho around noon. with the tally at three I always seem to choke when it comes to my limit fishy. the run went a little stale and I found myself having the hook either in the chin or outside the jaw  :-\. switched up presentations and 2 casts in the float does the dance and I do the bass master rip  ;D. on the beach came a nice buck and a happy sigh of relief. all 4 (3 doe, 1 buck) fish by 1pm and thus concluded my most solid trip this year.

I was on the other end of a low hole on Sunday while fishing a smaller system on the other side of the Fraser.  I was in a small run all to myself when a guy came down with his kid and walked right up, stood below me, close enough I could have tapped his shoulder with my rod tip, and began casting his spinner right where I was carefully trying to roll cast (it was a heavily treed area). He hooked a cherry coho right off the bat, and released it then hook and lost another silver one.  I did not cuss him out, I just packed up and left for another spot (miles of fishable water, so there was no need to fight over that one).  I ended up catching one and hooking a few more in the new spot.  It is funny he cussed you out before you have even begun fishing though.

Redtide: fished wool, pretty much all season
Sandman: i know that feeling and i know where he is coming from as well. had he asked me to move or said something rather than cuss me out and storm off i would have happily told him i wouldn't be fishing there. oh well, i'll probably see him tomorrow.

No you didn't. I just merged the two reports from the same day into one thread. Good to see coho salmon are still being caught in the Lower River.

I have been fishing roe and spinner/spoon at the lower canal and likewise many others around me. Never try wool except at the rapids. It will nice to catch coho on wool at the lower canal. Who needs the messy thing if wool works too. I just don't find them biting well when the water is slow like the canal. How much leader length and what colour of wool works best?

I blend all my colors, for contrast. as for leader it can get shamefully long depending on the water. its more so for keeping my presentation as far away from terminal tackle as possible. but in doing so I have to really feel for the "hit"

Still really low, hope the rain comes tonight.  Had some fun on the lower with the fly rod.  1 jack and 1 adult wild to hand and long line released 4 nice fish.  Landed 2 solid chum in the same spot in frog water/back channel which was a bit odd.  Helped a fellow fly fisher with a few beauty wild ones as well.  Rolled some blades and jigs and long line released 5-6 coho and landed a few tomatoes and older springs.  Beauty day out there
