Chilliwack River, March 6th 2013: First Trip Post Op
« on: March 06, 2013, 02:46:37 PM »

After taking a month off for ACL surgery I finally got back out on the flow today. My fishing partner was a first timer, she came with me to make sure I didn't hurt myself out there :P After planning out the spots which were easy for me to access we hit the flow with very low expectations of getting into anything, however surprises are always nice. Arriving at first light we slid into our spot, she decided to watch me for a bit before she gave it a try herself. Five casts or so later I was into a small steelhead around 5-6 pounds or so. I quickly handed the rod to her but forgot to mention one very important thing about centerpins. After a few thud's of the reel handles on her knuckles I was given the rod back while she procceeded to gently rub her hand. The fish ended up way downstream and my attempt to turn it popped the hook, oh well. After a few more hours and a couple different spots I tied into another fish, this one a bit bigger in the 10 pound range. My attempts to hand her the rod failed, she wasn't falling for that again apparently. I gently eased the wild doe in and tailed her, slipped the hook out and sent her on her way. We called it a day after that fish and headed for home, a fairly successful trip which we didn't expect. I now know of another person who is not a big fan of centerpins  ;)

Great report. Good luck with the knee, it's a tough injury but all the rehab should get you back out there alone in no time.
