Buntzen Lake, May 11th 2012
« on: May 11, 2012, 10:44:04 PM »

We took the boat out to Buntzen Lake early this afternoon until the park closed at 8:00pm. It was perfect weather for it, sunny and calm. A few other boats were out and Britguy made his way in while we were getting ready, but I was busy wrestling with my electric motor so didn't recognize him at the time. We decided to troll around the lake slowly today with a couple of Rooster Tails. I wanted to try out a new spinning outfit that we just got - Shimano Sahara 1000FD reel and 6' Clarus ultralight rod.

It was pretty slow for a couple of hours with only one fish to show, perhaps we just really suck at trolling. We anchored after almost falling asleep at 5:00pm and were into fish right away after spotting a couple of risers. They loved the Rooster Tails for about 30 minutes before the bites died off again. I also managed to connect with a kokanee, a rather skinny fish. An osprey came down and snatched an unsuspecting rainbow trout near our boat at one point. The osprey at Lafarge Lake could learn a few things.

Guys at the floating dock by the boat launch were into quite a few coarse fish (largescale sucker and northern pikeminnow).

Thanks for the report Rodney, I have experienced an afternoon doldrum in that lake many times, usually from about 1pm to 3:30 ish.
I caught a Kokanee in there last Sunday also.
