After years of courting redeemable paper money with more decor and housewares, Canadian Tire says it's returning to its roots as an automotive parts and service retailer and discontinuing its paper money effective April 2nd 2012.
That doesn't mean the retailer is abandoning the paper money, only that its worthless April 2nd and the public redeem by closing time today Mike Arnett, president of Canadian Tire Retail insisted during a news conference Wednesday. But it's tweaking the layout in its newer "smart" stores after making "too many compromises" in the older stores, he said.
As part of a three-to-five year strategic plan the company outlined to investors, Canadian Tire said it plans to focus more sharply on its core retail business, especially its automotive.
