Scent Use?

I was wondering if you could use scents on your spoons or buzzbombs for pinks on the Tidal Fraser river. ??? I have some Pautzke's gelKrill and I was wondering if it is OK to use. Thanks. ???

Scent is considered as bait. You can use it if there is no bait ban in effect.

Is scent considered "bait" in BC like it is in Washington State?  If it is considered bait, you should not be able to use it during a bait ban.

correct me if im wrong but I believe scent IS considered bait. So no you can't use it right now.

I noticed that the regulation states:

"- the use of bait is prohibited while fishing for salmon."

An older guy was fishing for pikeminnows at Brownsville bar yesterday with bait on a long pole (no reel). Someone asked me if it was legal and I said no, but I guess by the letter of the law he was not fishing for salmon.

The bait ban in effect on the Fraser River in September is implemented to protect endangered Interior coho salmon. Instead of have a total blanket closure for the sportfishing sector, this alternative provides lots of fishing opportunities without impacting the coho return too much. The start and end date of every year's bait ban are different. They are also different for tidal and non-tidal sections, to coincide with the migration timing. You can see the dates here:

Other management measures are also in effect during this period, including the requirement of releasing ALL coho salmon (both wild and hatchery fish).

The bait ban only applies to salmon fishing, so if you are fishing for other species then bait is permitted.

Scent applied on a hard body or soft body lure is considered as bait.

Thanks Rodney. This Bait ban did confuse me a bit ??? ???.  Now my kids can fish for small fish  ;D ;D. I have trouble tie Pink's Roe on a little hook. I think I will go back to Shrimp. It is fast and do not come off easy.

That will give me more time to fish for Pink.  ;D ;D
