skagit river fishing

Having never fished this  river i have no idea what to use or how to fish it.What lenght of rod,weight and type of line to use, and what type of flies to get before i go. Thanks in advance.

yes A LOT of bears. take a gun with you or go with a group and have bells and pebbles in a beer can and make a lot of noise. One time i have seen a bear on the other side of the river and than he decided to cross after standing up to have a better look at me. I quickly turned around and ran as fast as I could back to my car. lol. not sure if the bear crossed the river or turned around. I have never been back. I hate bears.lol. oh and the mosquitos are really bad. you have not experienced anything until you go there. As soon as you get out of your vehicle you get swarmed by thousands of mosquitos.

Both bad ideas  :-\

Try white leeches and articulating leeches. They seemed to drum up interest when I was there...

Pepper spray and some onion and salt in your pocket. Bears can't resist it. Oh yea, chive hat and butter lots of butter. Thats if your going for bear. The fish will take dry flies.

Never heard of that. This works?

Dry flies can be good, but I finding nymphing generally more productive (with the exception of evenings, when the surface action goes haywire). Midsummer days and clear water can make for some fussy fish at times. If you can get away from the high pressure spots you will find more willing fish. Any access point is a good starting point, as there is TONS of great water to fish, no need to worry about hot spots or specific locations.
