hooked on sturgeon
« on: June 12, 2005, 07:50:14 PM »

Well our day started off at #2 road across from the airport trying for some dollys, my girlfriend forgot her boots and it was pretty mucky with the low tide.  So after catching a couple bullheads we decided to head to Londons landing to give it a try, this was my first time fishing there. We caught about 10 bullheads on single eggs, but nothing on the bar rod.  Since it was so shallow there, and having enough fun with the bullheads we headed up river to find some deeper water. A little ways up river I notice a rod bent over, so we parked the truck and got to the river just in time to see a young fellow landing a 3 or 4 foot sturgeon.  This being the first sturgeon my girlfriend has ever seen in the wild, she instantly fell in love, saying that it was the most beautiful fish she had ever seen! We set up, saw another fish  caught 10 min later about the same size, saw two more lost, one about 4 feet jumped straight out of the water like a white missle being fired from a submarine. No fish for us, but my girlfriend wants to go back tomorrow, which is kinda funny because a month ago when I tried to convince her we should invest in some sturgeon gear all she could say was "why would you want to fish for something you cant keep?" now she is hooked, has a new favorite fish, and will probably be shopping with me at the tackle store for a new rod and reel.

Hi Lucky,

Where did you see someone land a sturgeon? (I'm assuming along dyke road between #2 and #3).

I was down at the 3 road pier yesterday and hooked a 3-4 ft sturgeon. My line gave away about 15 ft from shore but I managed to get a great glimpse of it. It jumped straight up and out of the water(like how you described) when it was first hooked, it was an awesome sight.

This one was a little more active though, it actually ran for a bit unlike the other ones that just sink to the bottom.
