Rice lake Oct.29
« on: October 29, 2005, 05:42:21 PM »

Well I decided to let the salmon rest today and headed out to Rice lake for a little trout fishing.  Got there around noon and had the whole dock to myself, five minutes after setting up my float went down and I landed a nice little rainbow around 14".  One more bite that I missed a little later and that was it for the day. The sun came out and it turned out to be a nice day at the lake, left for home around 5 as it was getting a bit chilly.

Never seen a rainbow with so many spots. What a huge belly! Check what he was eating??  Went to one of my favorite lakes today and rowed for hours. Had a few on but nothing caught until later in the afternoon but I had to fish from shore to catch two smaller brooks.  They are sure good eating.  Caught with a small purple leech! Fun way of fishing and only me on the lake! But it would be fun to catch some coho!

Information on Rice Lake, including directions

The lake was stocked on October 27th with 750 catchable rainbow trout. The staff at the hatchery reported that some of the catchables in this batch are over 1lb, much bigger than the average size.

Enjoy, remember that daily quota for rainbow trout is 4 fish.

Most of the rainbow they stock in the lakes around here resemble that one.  Or at least most of the ones i catch locally.  These trout are pretty dumb as they were pellet fed and reared in the hatcheries.  The ones i catch never seem to have much food in them either besides maybe a couple little sticks or something.  Still fun to catch though.
