Quick afternoon trip Oct - 26th
« on: October 26, 2005, 04:32:51 PM »

Decided it was a nice day to hit the river so I grabbed the rod and headed out to a local flow.

Upon arriving, I noticed a lot of fish surfacing so I immediately got excited.

I proceeded to find a perch with a good view of the run and then cast to 2 fish I saw sitting there.  Neither moved for my blade, but then as I came to the end of my retrieve, from underneith a ledge, I see a chrome coho dash out and smack my lure...first cast and fish on!  It was a very lively fish but after 5 minutes it gently slid into my hands.  About a 8-9 lb hatchery doe so indeed I was happy considering I had no expectations for a quick afternoon fish.

Continued fishing for another 30 minutes hooking up with 3 chum before calling it quits.

That really is a beauty. Must have been exciting being able to see it go for the lure....an added bonus. :)

The key is variety.  I havent found the fish to be "on" this year.  The coho I have got I have had to work for to a high degree.

Experimenting with different shapes, sizes, and colours are key to finding the right lure.

Mr McGoo, that is truly a nice Coho. It's been a long time since I saw one like that. Almost makes me want to try river fishin.
