People getting kicked out of Forest Recreational Sites
« on: April 05, 2020, 03:27:05 PM »

Some friends just got back from camping up at a forest rec site way up West Harrison FSR.
Apparently there is some parks guy driving around in a Jeep Rubicon kicking everyone of forest rec sites (I'm not talking about Provincial Parks...just forest rec sites)
These friends were all sleeping in their own vehicles and totally respecting the social distancing thing. Since when is crown land off limits??
Am I missing something or is someone on a power trip?

Ok...that's notice is only 2 days ago. I'm not someone who has camped this year, so I wasn't aware.

Anyways.....I think this is taking things too far. What good is it to keep everyone from everything? There are still public spaces open so what is going to happen is more and more people are going to flock to less and less places. If they kept more open, then people would be spread out.

For example both Sunshine Valley and Camperland are open. Both of those facilities hold 100s of people.
But no....instead lets boot a half dozen people out of each Forest Rec site.

Public camping versus private.

6 people interact and one person has it, those 6 people then interact with 6 others each and on and on potentially.
Short term loss for longterm stability.  Just look at the US who DID NOT DO THE RIGHT THING WHEN THEY WERE TOLD TO!!!!!

Please don't be one of the minority that keeps f@$king it up for the majority so we all end up in this scenario even longer than needed.

So I got some more info from them. There were only 3 of them. Separate vehicles....and they weren't even in a FRS after all that. They were in a clearing off the road on crown land that they were able to drive into.
They stayed 10 feet apart the whole time...and were at least that when approached by the parks guy.

I'm all for the keeping the respect of 'flattening the curve' in this situation, but this is overkill. This is just fear mongering control.
How are 100s of people cramped in Sunshine Valley or Camperland totally SAFE, but 3 guys in a forest clearing in the middle of nowhere a risk?

Common you guys. We are all outdoorsmen here....how can you not see a problem here?

Some people are getting edgy ...
Every night hearing young to old dying.
Italy Spain Britain USA so on with 1000s dying.
Think we are hopeful but seems at this pt there's no end....
Park guy maybe under orders ...kick people out.
He writes it up in the book.
Looks good when he hands work day report to the higher ups.
In his mind...if we do not kick them out today there will be big parties happening in the future.
But yes when you compare these 3 getting the boot ...then these other places open ...it does not compute or seems fair.
Today on the dyke I stopped my bike 6ft away from two Chinese & told them about Teddy Hung ex HK gangster who became a good person...story on Youtube.
Then this guy walking on the dyke walking past me starts giving me crap about social distancing..
Told him I'm 6ft away from these people & you came walking past us....so go blow your nose somewhere else !!!
Ha!
Antsy people.
But yes these are troubling times.

Harrison West is a GONG SHOW ! I took my boy to Francis Lake to do some fishing and there was a 6 truck camping party. We decided to drive to Wood lake and toss a line in there. On the way up to wood we passed maybe 9 or 10 camp sites just off the side of the road. Its ugly up there. It's not my usual scene bit since the boat launches are closed in Mission we have turned to float fishing sloughs and backwoods lakes. The thought of launching Barrowtown doesnt excite me enough. The closing of launches does get me scratching my head. The parks are open all over and see crowds of people all over the place. I really dont understand why the launches are closed. Why ? Because the province doesnt have laws in place to fine people who dont social distance so they just cupcakes it down ? They can close all they want but if there is no enforcement, what's the point ? Why not actually enforce the rules we currently have before closing more public spaces ? I called the cops on a house down the road from me on Saturday night. They had a house party. Not a single cop showed up. I cant launch my boat on the Fraser in Mission ? It's a joke.
