Shakespeare or Minn kota?
« on: January 05, 2015, 01:08:29 PM »

Hello,

Trying to decide between a Shakespeare 55 pound thrust or Minn kota endura max 45 pound? Basically the  same price. Leaning toward the Minn kota but would love some advice. Also what is the best battery to get in your opinion? Thank you in advance.

I was in the same boat a while ago and decided to go with the Minn Kota after reading reviews. It has served me well, I would recommend the Minn Kota.

Also what is the best battery to get in your opinion?

Deep cycle marine grade. Heavy, but will keep you going for two days without needing recharging.
Trojan makes excellent ones. Got 7 years out of mine and still going.

Thank you both. I know Humpy I agree the reviews just seem that much better for Minn kota. Do you guys have your batteries hooked up to a trickle charger all year or only charge it periodically through the year?I  will only be using it between March and May. Thank you in advance.

How often do you use the battery Jeff? What brand of trickle charger do you have? Where did you buy it?

Mikes reel repair also repairs MinnKotas.
Not sure if they fix other brands.
Have never had a problem with any of the Minnkotas ive owned.
Most reliable part of my fishing day. :)

Dear Mr. MinnKotta
Please send cheque to..... ;) ::)

Anyone has used Haswing Osapian trolling motors before? How good are they? They obviously sell and service here in the BC LML:

Nope, never heard of it.

I've had two Minn Kotas over the course of 25 years.

A 20lb that I bought 25 years ago, which is still going strong since I passed it on to a family friend.

And I currently run a 50lb Maximizer that I got about 6 years ago.

Neither has even had the slightest glitch or any issue whatsoever.  I wouldn't even consider changing brands at this point, I am officially brand loyal based on personal experience and the same experience of those in my 'fishing circle'.

Damien's last paragraph pretty much sums it up for me as well.
