Chilliwack River, July 3rd 2014

Fulfilled my Fishing Buddy pledge today and took a friend to the river for some trout action. Kenneth went fishing once before with his mother in Homg Kong when he was 8. They got skunked, and that was 30 years ago, so he was very interested to try again.

With a little bit of instruction, he was able to the hang of casting a spinning reel, managing the slack line, drifting, and setting the hook. These little trout can't refuse a piece of worm so it wasn't long before we had some fish on the bank.

As we were fishing a couple came over and asked if we had caught any; they had been fishing upstream with no luck. As we talked, I learned they were newlyweds from Florida up here on their honeymoon, and although they had bought an outfit from Freds, they hadn't landed a trout yet. I invited them to fish near us. Zack's float was too big for his prey Ithought so I clipped off his DNE float and put on one of my cut down dink floats.  It didn't take long before he had one :)

Kenneth and I said good bye to the couple and moved downstream where he was able to continue fishing with worms and I was able to have some flyfishing success with a floating line and a beadhead Hare's Ear nymph. That was good fun.

A very rewarding and fun day.
