start by practicing with a large weight to get the hang of it..1.5 to 2oz should do with that line size(with or without a float)bouncing betties work good ;D....keep your hand slightly on the reel as is spins always and on the farther casts and you may need to slow the reel down slightly the farther your cast gets away from you to prevent backlash from the reel spinning too quickly(reel lets out line faster than the cast is going to the target). make sure you stop the reel right when is hits the target or that will cause backlash as well(reel still spinning when the cast has complete or landed). if your rod isn't getting loaded because your using too light of weight it can cause backlash if your not carefull as well. or not getting the reel spinning before the forecast you could be causing the reel to not spin fast enough which causes a hinge like cast that backlashes your reel as well(try letting go slightly before you cast on the end of your back swing to help get the reel spinning and prevent the whipping like motion blaydrnr described in the posted below for the long bombs. good luck.

over spooling is definitely a problem, but you also have to control the spin of the reel using your finger/s as a guide as the line is shooting out...another cause is over whipping the rod trying too hard to get distance.

what type of centrepin is it....usually with most pins I like to see the line loaded up to just before the outer edge of the outer holes ported on the reel. If your just learning you may even want to only be half way.

What rod you using? I would think your problem lies within the rod and how it is reacting to the big bomb casts. What I mean is that when you try to cast farther by swinging harder its loading the rod more and thus spinning the reel faster. Then all of a sudden the rod is whipping back and forth causing the line which is traveling through the eyes to drag on the eyes and slow it down while the reel still spins at a high speed. Best thing to do is control the reel speed by slowing it slightly with a finger. More weight could help by pulling the line through the eyes but that's the easy way out...
