Lots of fish but no Kokanee which is what I was after. Had to change up every day for trout bites. Good fly fishing for them as well. Doc Spratley was a big hit this time. Wind was a bit of a bummer again but still better than last time up there. Just wonder what happened to the Kokes?

--Wood lake confirmed as major die off so I wonder if Ruth and other lakes are also victims this year?

--This is of significant concern as Bridge lake also over the years has been boom and bust for kokanee also Okanagan. Fisheries has of late been experimenting with triploid kokanee in lakes that have in the past been stocked with eastern brookies... especially where ice fishing opportunities could be expanded.

--I am not saying these incidents are related just that kokanee... maybe due to their schooling habits seem susceptible to mass die off. I saw an incident a few years ago on Skaha where masses of similar sized kokanee were floating belly up (skaha kokanee are not currently supplemented by hatchery).

I saw what you wrote about Wood lake. At Ruth in September you can gauge the amount of them because they congragate in one area where a creek sometimes runs. Noticed the same thing at Bridge lake where the river runs out. Usually I have the best fishing for them in Ruth in June. Going to try Horse, Bridge and Lac la hache next month during my holidays. They can be hard to target anyway. Makes all that much more special as there are lakes nearby that I catch large trout without trying too hard.

-- You might want to check out Kokaneepower... Non profit organizations providing support to the sate fisheries south of the boarder. Lots of information on their web sites with links to manufacturers of specialty equipment and fishing tips.
--Of interest many mom and pop style manufacturers of equipment and no end of people making their own super secret rigs.
--Specialty and custom rods... even by well known manufacturers such as Lamiglas.

--The inland fisheries committee of the BCwildlife Fed and local fishing clubs spend a great deal of time on volunteer projects to enhance kokanee fishing and knowledge
