I cannot say from experience in past few years but i also "used" to spend alot of time down there because it was close to home. I never hear good reports anymore from his area and i think its because the bottom has changed alot over time. Back in the day it was a ....go to .... place and I also used to throw roe from a boat and lightly have it bounce along the bottom to entice strikes rather than have it sit in one place. I had success doing this but out of casting distance from the shore fishers.
During pink season i was fishing downstream from Derby where the fish were filing thru like a freeway BUT when getting closer to Derby the fish were out a ways beyond the casters. So, just for reference in case i did want to come back for coho season ( unfortunately i did not) I ran the depth sounder thru one end to the other and found the depth to be really shallow for a long distance from shore 7 - 9 feet ...... beyond casting distance, and running out with limited slope.
Now from my experience (and anyone can feel free to correct me) we used to fish a drop off which creates laneways much the same as upper Fraser bars. Derby no longer has these anywhere except the extreme east end where i seen some snags. In the other direction west towards Muench bar the bottom was great and could see the pathway while pink fishing all the way up to golden ears bridge. We were close to the shore line but the slope created 14-16' of water in a tenth of the distance of that in front of Derby. My sounder was showing many more fish constantly thru this area, specific to the side of the slope in a varying depth of water from 14 - 20'. Tide also played a factor as well for depth but the laneway was clear for heaviest flow of fish. There were always fishing showing all over but could see where the majority would run thru by monitoring the depth sounder when schools would come by.
Anyways , I guess my main point is to head down to Muench bar area for a better shot at anything because the bottom is much more favourable for fish traffic.
