Sage Launch Series
« on: June 05, 2011, 05:25:52 PM »

Some decent prices on the Sage Launch fly rod online ... anyone have one of these and recommend them?  It's between this and a TFO in a 5 wt, thanks again!

I fish a Sage Launch 4wt and its pretty sweet. I also fish an older lower/midrange Sage 5wt that i love but the 4wt still gets the nod more often  ;D

most rods of 4wt or under are medium to slower action so you need to just slow down a little and feel the rod working for you. If this is your first fly rod i would suggest stepping up to a 5wt with a medium/fast action because this will be more forgiving and easier to feel the rod loading. anytime i try to rush the cast with my 4wt (like when the bite is ON) it doesnt cast the best or as nice so im always trying to remember to slow down and let the rod work for me, I dont have this problem with my 5wt.

OR you can buy the rod and just keep at it, might help to take lessons (and use your rod)

I have a Sage Launch 4 pc. 9 wt. I use for both trout and salmon . You may think it is overkill , however it was a bonus last time out a Roche Lake when my 4 wt. Fenwick broke in half. Plus it's nice to be able to stuff it into your back pack for the hike in lakes .

Nice photo ... is that a spinner on the end of your fly line?  I'm a total noob when it comes to fly fishing ... didn't realize that would work but it obviously does!

Kwik fish lure . I resorted to this because on this particular day we had a thunder storm and it started to hail out and we had a heavy rain . The action on flies just wouldn't work . I tried all the flies I had with me and none of them produced anything . The hail and rain wiped out any hatch that was happening that day so I thought I would throw on a kwik fish and row around to see if I could muster a fish into biting . With full sink line I trolled around and it didn't take long before I caught these 2 beauties . I got them right at dusk . A little cheating I guess .

Went to order it online, the 5 wts are now sold out, looks like the launch series is discontinued so will have to find another model ... oh well, thanks anyways.

I tried to grab a 5wt launch, all sold out and looks like they are discontinued now ..... looks like if I wanna do a Sage entry level it's the vantage series.  It's a vantage rod/reel or the TFO NXT kit combo.

An idea would be to keep your eyes on eBay. With the vantage replacing the launch, sometimes some good deals can be had on old stock or lightly used. When the sage flights came out and replaced the FLi's, I bought a couple FLi's  on eBay for some great prices.
